Legal Prostitution in Nevada

Since 1971 prostitution has been legal in the state of Nevada; the only US state to do so (and only in counties with less than 400,000 inhabitants). In Mound House, in Lyon County, 4 brothels off Route 50 generate roughly $600,000 per year in fees and taxes. With regulation came a drop in sexually spread diseases, prostitution-related crime and a financial windfall for the 10 counties where 30 brothels run legitamate businesses. With more supporters than opponants, the world's oldest profession has found a legal status quo in Nevada, including a minister turned lobbyist fighting for their rights since 1985.
